“Well? What’s wrong?” Abbracciavento demanded impatiently.
“Nothing” Sven breathed out “Whatever is causing this fever has to do with her body.”
She didn’t understand the man’s panic. Sven studied child anatomy during her early years in Yilbegan University and sicknesses such as these were relatively normal during childhood development.
Viktorya too looked puzzled and hesitantly stepped forward.
“Don Abbracciavento, if I may speak freely…this sort of illness is perfectly normal for children of her age-“
“I DIDN’T ASK FOR YOUR OPINION!”
Both women froze on the spot as the immortal raised his voice. His tone reminded Sven of the incident with Aleksei and she could feel the beginnings of fear twist her stomach. Abbracciavento didn’t look like he would listen to reason.
Still, Sven tried again.
“This is probably because she spent such a long time out in the snow. The fever is mild, I don’t think that-“
“And what if it isn’t?” the man asked with a deceptively calm voice. “What if she doesn’t wake up in the morning? What then?”
Sven didn’t know how to reply. This was madness, the man wasn’t making any sense.
“Luca…” a weak voice broke the tense silence and Abbracciavento immediately turned back towards his charge. Stella patted the side of his head with a weak hand.
“I’m fine, just a little hot. Don’t be angry.”
“Really?” Abbracciavento asked, looking very much like a child himself. Stella continued to pet his cheek.
“Really. Your hand is so cool it feels so nice…” she grabbed at the immortal’s hand, pressing it against her forehead. He pressed himself close, climbing on the bed next to her and Viktorya sent Sven a pointed look, glancing at the door. The pair on the bed continued to talk, voices soft as Sven exited the master bedroom. Viktorya followed soon after.
“What just happened?” the doctor asked, wasting no time. “Is this the first time Stella got sick?”
“No. She has always been prone to fevers. Master Abbracciavento…has trouble dealing with sickness.”
